The decentralization of users against the internet of celebrities

The internet of celebrities

Now in the internet, especially in the user-generated content platforms, some famous or popular users oligopolize the audience. I propose this trend is called the internet of celebrities.

VALU [1] is a symbolic website of the internet of celebrities. VALU is a system which monetizes the fame or popularity of the celebrities. It is known that Okada Yuka [2] bought her cryptocurrency back for leaving VALU. NILU [3], a parody website of VALU, is also serves the virtual currency of the internet celebrities, such as Nullkal, Yuki Hiroshi, and Takahashi Chokudai. NILU brings so called a visualization of the vanity of the internet celebrities.

The applications of the internet sometimes are imagined as a telephone or a television [4, 5]. An user-generated content pletform is not a telephone nor a television by nature, it tends to be accepted as a telephone or a television however. How about LINE or Twitter? LINE is just an interneted telephone. Twitter is an user-generated content platform by design, but many users of Twitter communicate in small groups.

An user-generated content platform also may become just a television. Major contents are tend to official, which are made by the huge capital and human resources. More often, pirates or copyright violating contents occupy the user-generated content platform.

The internet celebrities also bring the televisionization of the user-generated content platforms. The internet celebrities are also known as alpha bloggers, alpha twitterers, and youtubers. Many internet celebrities are already famous outside the internet, especially the television.

Mastodon and its celebritized nature

Actually, Mastodon is an internet of celebrities? There seems to be no alpha mastodoner nor the giant in Mastodon. The whole number of the users of Mastodon is not so huge to attract the internet celebrities.

On the other hand, sometimes the presence of the alpha mastodoners is suggested. Gusukuma [6] suggests that: Mastodon is a small evaluation economic society in which some famous users oligopolize the evaluation. This is accurately the internet of celebrities.

Hakaba Hitiyo [7] also said that: In the post-april Mastodon, the administrators of the instances have to be famous in the internet. Some Mastodon instances realize this prediction. Mastodon is not a typical internet of celebrities yet, actually there are some mini-celebrities in Mastodon.

Fairness of the design of websites

Anyway, to destroy the internet of celebrities, and to realize the decentralization of users, we must feature the users who are not well known. Now I propose the terms recommendation fairness, or just fairness for short, and unfairness. Fairness, in this book, means to support the decentralization of users. By contrast unfairness means to support the oligarchy of the users.
